If you haven’t been to Bangkok before, make sure that you have the hotel name written in Thai as well as English. You want to avoid having your cab driver send you to a different hotel. This happens a lot. The story is simple: the cab driver sends you to a hotel and gets a commission for it, but that may not be your hotel at all. I already knew this drill, and I was still sent to the neighbor hotel, which was about 3 times nicer. I even tipped the cab driver well. Who knew! Nothing is scary here, just get the hotel right.

They know some of the best Thai food places since they have more income than an average Thai person. So what is going to cost you, $20 for the two of you for a full course meal? Big deal! You will also have a better anyway.

Red light districts Bangkok in general

If this is the first time you’ve been in Bangkok, there are many things that you want to watch for. Common sense precautions that every traveler takes are a necessity. Although I never find Bangkok to be a very dangerous city, it is smart to not be a “target”. There are a lot of tourists and you’re not that noticeable. Just don’t look lost, confused and new. People are more likely to take advantage of you if you play the new guy. So if you find that cool, then you will just end up paying more J. Blending in and enjoying will probably be the best thing for you.

Another thing that I would recommend is to try and stay away from lady-boys / katooeys. They are usually pushy, wear lots of make up, fake and accented breasts. Some of them can look like girls so just keep an open eye for that. They usually start roaming around later at night. I have heard of incidents where they get too pushy and even violent, although luckily I never had to deal with this. If you’re already with a girl, you’re less likely to have any incidents, because they are your butt saver right?

One more last thing, please avoid dark or not properly lit places. You want to at least be able to read the name of the place. I heard about scams and you don’t want those.

This is a good place to start. This place is more laid back and doesn’t have a pushy atmosphere. Service and prices are cheaper than some other places. You may not be able to find top spinners here, but I would definitely recommend this place if you are new to this thing in Bangkok. You can start learning the “ways” here: negotiating, bar fines, ST, LT and finding your top bang for the buck. I don’t think this place will be a disappointment at all. It’s always a good warm-up, even for experienced tourists.

There are about 50 places here, so quite a bit of selection. Beer is about 150 Baht. Bar fines are from 500 Baht. I wouldn’t pay more than 1000 for BF, but you might find something irresistible with higher BF. I wouldn’t advise getting drunk. Have a drink or two max, see what you have to see and move on to the next great place. The more of these places you see the better.

This is also a good place at night, also laid back. Prices can be a little higher, but there are lots of places that you might want to check here. I wasn’t quite impressed with the selection here. Also, I noticed a lot of older men with really young girls. That sight was a bit unattractive, no offense if you’re into that. The girls in the disco were too young and yes that’s great, but being in my 30’s I wasn’t very much into it. There is a hotel nana which is a terrible place. Maybe I got a bad room, but I would just not go there again. Having a smoking room was enough, let alone shape of that place and no locker. If you want to stay around this place for cheap you could try Dynasty Inn. This place is okay. By the way, there is another Dynasty Inn in Pattaya. Dynasty in Bangkok has some kind of free transfer to Pattaya Dynasty. I have no idea if there was a catch, but I do remember that Dynasty in Pattaya is about 5 times better, and Pattaya’s nightlife strikes me as amazing. Read my new blog on Pattaya. This is where the experience crowd should go. There is too much to absorb and there are stunning hot girls. It is located between Silom and Surawong. It is probably the most uncontrolled place in Southeast and possible the whole world when it comes to adult industry. It is the most visited place in Bangkok. It is an amazing place not only for those involved in this industry, but also for tourists who come to gaze on shiny neon and experience one of the most unique places in the world. It is a must see for everyone, maybe a bit overwhelming for fresh tourists. As I said earlier, try to get familiar with your surroundings and culture by visiting a couple of beer bars. Prices in Patpong are going to be significantly higher, but girls are miraculous and it’s something you’ve probably never seen before.

If you are looking for a party and night life, the biggest scene is probably around Patong Beach in Phuket. This is not a very long walking street, but it is packed with bars, nightclubs and girls everywhere. There are plenty of aussie bars if you like to watch a game. Visit Tiger and Hollywood nightclubs. They are open until very late and if you’re tired of looking around the bars, do not worry — there are plenty of girls in all nightclubs and many of them are freelancers. Some of them prefer to not be working in a bar. That could be a good thing, however, you have to be careful like with all the girls. My experience was actually a lot better with a freelancer than with one of the bar girls.
